Thanks to the consistent advocacy of “wearing white after Labor Day” in the fashion industry, now that “Can I wear white in winter” is no longer a question. Many of you are asking “which white should I wear” and “how to wear it”. Given the holiday season upon us, I picked three of my favorite outfits lately that all incorporated chic white to help you answer these questions.
To make white pieces weather-appropriate during this time of the year, winter white (like the hue on Jessica Biel above), ivory, and platinum (which is great for holiday parties, like the one on Diane Von Furstenberg above) are all great options.
Layering is key to wearing white in fall/winter. Feel free to top white with white: wear a silk ivory button-down shirt underneath a milk white pull over sweater for a casual, warm day look, or team a white sheath dress with glittering pumps (love this pair!) for a fresh, chic night out look.
If you are not ready for white-on-white, pair yours with warm, earthy and rich colors. Brown is a safe choice (remember this look of Mirrande Kerr?), but I like something more unpredictable: with rich red (the beautiful red print on Emma Stone’s dress cinched her waist while adding a festive touch); with black (my favorite; black and white combo has a chic, modern vibe), or with yellow (like Jessica Biel’s Fendi clutch–bright, warm and eye-catching).
Besides showing us the right white colors and ways to style them, the three looks above are also great examples of how to wear white at every age: Emma Stone’s dress is flirty and retro girly, paired with a trendy ankle strap pointy toe pumps, it’s great for those in your 20’s. For those in your 30’s, you may need something more sleek, contemporary, sophisticated but with a touch of sexy edginess, Jessica Biel’s slim fit dress is a perfect option. Love her metallic pumps and yellow clutch. Diane Von Furstenberg is always a great example for those over 40 (although she is already in her 60’s) to follow. The loose, half-tucked-in top paired with sequin skirt showed off her lean legs, fashionable yet age-appropriate.
Below are great picks for your coming up holiday parties, good luck!
