After seeing so many kaleidoscope prints, ornate embellishments, saturated bold colors, it’s so fresh to spot clean, sleek black and white ensemble. And from the intense fashion events last month, we know that we will play around this classic palette in the coming season too.
High contrast black and white combination is my all-time favorite. It’s more sophisticated than colorful patterns, but has the same attractive, eye-catching effect. From the three stylish women above, you can see that this combination works perfectly for women of any age. Earlier this summer, I dedicated two posts about how to wear black and white in hot months (here and here). Today, let’s share some tips on how to rock it now and in the coming holiday season.
In fall/winter, a stylish coat should stay at the top of our list. This season, the key word is oversize. With a statement coat like the one on Miranda Kerr (above left), all you need is sleek and simple pieces to let the coat do the talk. Sleek and sexy pointy-toe shoes are coming back, teamed with cropped pants, you get a stylish, effortlessly chic and office-friendly look.
Long sleeve tops and dresses are season-appropriate. The modern graphic shorts ensemble and elegant flattering dress you see on Kristen Stewart (above middle) and Stella Tennan (above right) are unexpected options for holiday parties when paired with heels and structured clutch, also are office-appropriate yet fashionable choices when teamed with opaque tights and neutral coats or blazers.
For printed black and white pieces, I like to create a understated monochrome effect by adding accessories in the same palette. But feel free to add a splash of bright color that you like: scarlet lip, sunny yellow belt, or cobalt blue shoes will make the pattern stand out even more.
Below I picked my favorite black and white pieces, hope you like them as I do. Keep in mind that, with the black and white trend we saw on spring 2013 runway, these pieces will take us directly to the next season. And these accessories? Feel free to use them in summer too!
