The other day I received a great advice from a reader (thank you, Joanie!), she asked me to feature some stylish women in their 40s and 50s. The first style icon jumped into my mind was Maggie Cheung. For those who haven’t heard of her, check out her profile on Vogue Italian (here).

I was just about to put my straw tote away during my wardrobe purge when I saw this latest look (the middle one above) of Alexa Chung. I knew a straw tote is practical and easy-going. Its ability to add a touch of bohemian glamour to any outfit also makes it never go out of style.
But I never thought I can carry it to a fancy dinner or a formal event while teaming it with something delicate as silk and lace, or glittering as metallic pieces.

What caught my eye: Houndstooth heels on the three ladies.
Styling tips:
High contrast black and white patterns are my favorite, from stripes, to polka dots and houndstooth we featured today. They are eye-catching yet easy-going. As you can see above, the same houndstooth heels work perfectly on Evan Rachel Wood’s androgynous look, Emma Stone’s girly preppy look and Nicole Richie’s feminine, seductive look.
