An outfit that mixes something opulent and exquisite with pieces that are austere, plain or casual is what I always love and get inspired by. Today’s featured outfits of Blake Lively & Jamie Chung above perfectly interpreted that:

Highlight a bold, embellished eye-catching skirt with neutral, understated pieces and minimal accessories, resulting a pulled-together yet effortless chic outfit. After all, we are in this era with blurred borders. (I knew it was a dress on Blake Lively, but you got my point)

An outfit that exudes a bit of everything–modern, sharp, sensual, laid-back, sometimes a little sporty–is not only attractive but also practical too: A tailored blazer and structured satchel can make this combo office-friendly; A flat or sneaker with a bomber jacket and baseball cap can transform it into day-time chic look, and the list goes on…

Summer Breeze: Printed Maxi & Strap Sandals

Besides ice cream, nothing beats the heat than a lightweight flowy skirt/dress and sandal combo. Here, Miranda Kerr showed us how to stay pretty and glamorous in this beloved summer ‘uniform’.

The two beautiful, eye-catching maxi skirts on her are definitely the centerpiece. The prints look like art, combined with the easy breezy sheer material, perfect for summer! The sophisticated color and abstract pattern make them great for any age. The best part? They are from affordable Topshop!

For the first look, a basic black top highlights the skirt, the halter neck design alone with T-strap sandals make the look cool and summery. An It bag that has been spotted on her countless times and a red lip dress up the otherwise laid-back outfit while keeping the color scheme sophisticated.

Add a blazer and a ballet flat or heel sandal, you can wear this to the office too. Deep blue color makes this skirt can be easily transformed for fall with a leather jacket and ankle booties.

Maximized Weekend: Chic Maxi Skirt Looks

Last time, I shared a versatile “uniform” that’s great to wear year-round. Today, as another weekend is coming, I want to share an ageless, flattering, casual “uniform” that’s perfect for warm weather: sleeveless top + maxi skirt.

By pairing with tops in different colors, prints, materials, shapes or styles, a maxi skirt can result variety of outfits that are great for all summer events. When combined with accessories, the list of outfits can be endless.

As you can see from above two looks, Miranda Kerr and Heidi Klum perfectly showed us how to play with this “formula” at different ages: For women in their 30s or under, have fun with your maxi skirts, choose leopard, floral or striped ones, pair them with a slouchy tank top, studded booties and straw fedora for an urban-bohemian chic look.

When you reach 40, look for high-quality pieces in graceful colors: black, olive or aubergine colored maxi skirts with great drape are elegant, and easy to transform for many occasions. Instead of pairing them with graphic Tee or casual tank top, choose silk blouse or cami, which shows the mature sexiness.

Wedge sandals are comfy for walking around while giving you the extra height and femininity. Bright colored, trendy or even whimsical accessories are great ways to show your fashion taste without looking overdone.
