Same Pieces, Different Looks (Part II)

This is the second part of our last entry, about how Olivia Palermo recycles old pieces in her wardrobe. As you can see from the two looks above, the main pieces are almost the same: white coat, black sweater worn underneath and edgy leather pants. But again, accessories made a difference: comfy flats, earth- tone satchel and loose hair said laid-back chicness while delicate suede pumps and braided hair made her look evening-ready.

To make a coat-and-pants combo appropriate for both day and night, the key is choosing the right color and silhouette. Classic black and white are easy to be transformed by adding different accessories. For the pants, those in dark colors, and with minimum details are dressy enough for a night-out, extra bonus for those are special materials, like leather, velvet, satin or brocade. For the coat, the one on Olivia is a perfect example: thin material makes it perfect for layering. Short sleeves can show off what’s underneath (remember this sweater on her we featured in the last post?). The unique cape-like shoulder design makes it can be easily dress up or down.

Olivia Palermo is frequently spotted in neutrals for a sophisticated day time look, like the black, white and brown palette in today’s look (above left), or the black, white, and grey we featured last time (here). For a night out, she always adds a splash of bright color or a bold print. Take today’s look (above right) for instance, she chose cobalt blue instead of red to brighten up her monochrome look.
