I do agree that fashion rules are meant to be broken, but with one exception–
every women should have at least one simple, elegant, go-with-everything LBD. And I consider this not a “rule”, but a “law”.It’s the best interpretation of the beauty of simplicity. It’s versatile, functional, stylish, and moreover, it’s seasonless, ageless, and timeless.
Since the 1920s, when Coco Channel first introduced it to the fashion world till now, the little black dress not only stays active but also has developed an emotional connection with women. It conveys more than “a dress”. As Ines de la Fressange wrote in her book Parisian Chic: A Style Guide: “The little black dress is not simply an item of clothing, it’s a concept. It’s abstract, it’s universal.”
For me, the best part of a LBD is its compatibility: It flatters every women and can result in countless different yet stylish looks, like today’s looks I featured: paired with cool sunglasses and edgy yet comfy flats, a simple LBD can be so effortlessly chic; teamed with a classic quilted chain bag and a pair of timeless black pumps, a detailed LBD can be so elegant; Spiced up with a pair of animal print shoes, a satin or silk LBD can be so sweet yet edgy.
