For me, the first name in the enormous shoes world that can be considered in the same league as Alexander McQueen in the clothing word will undoubtedly be Nicholas Kirkwood.
Although the brand was launched a few year ago (in 2005), Nicholas Kirkwood’s funky, eye-catching, architectural footwear definitely makes him the king when it comes to statement footwear.
His collection deeply changed my opinion on statement accessories: as a minimalist, I only wear them with neutrals and understated pieces. But Nicholas Kirkwood shows that these bold, wow babies can be so versatile and timeless.
They are much more practical than we thought they were. Blake Lively, Sarah Jessica Parker and Miranda Kerr (their outfits above and below) show us that high quality statement footwear can go with everything–from solid colors to neutrals, from bold geometric to sweet floral; and can company us year round–from summer to fall, from office to event.

Sarah Jessica Parker rocks statement shoes a lot and this Nicholas Kirkwood Sandals from the brand’s fall 2010 collection have no exceptions. She wore it with basic black and white, with bold animal or floral print and from airport to red carpet!
My favorite look is the left one–she paired it with white blazer and zebra dress. (check this look in my previous post here.)

I used to stick to a neutral wardrobe, so I always counted on statement accessories like bags, shoes, costume jewelries to transform my looks. That’s actually one important reason that I fell in love with accessories and built this site. But today’s lesson tells us that statement pieces shouldn’t only be put with neutrals. Be brave and creative when playing with them and have fun!
