Bohemian Romance Meets Cowgirl Chic: Light Colored Ankle Boots

What is Bohemian Romance+Cowgirl Chicness+Parisian Elegance? For me, the answer is Isabel Marant!

People say she is the “French Alexander Wang”. For me, her collections are my “Casual Chanel”: if at formal and elegant side, Chanel tweed suits are my ultimate choices, then at casual and relax side, I will go with Isabel Marant. Her collections are fashionable yet practical, feminine yet edgy, casual yet chic.

Many pieces she designed are truly timeless: the trench coats, the knits, the shirt dresses… but today, I want to dedicate this post to my favorite: the ankle boots, especiallylight colored ones.

They are great transitional pieces to carry us between seasons; the nude color can elongate our legs; the comfy design is perfect for outdoor activities; the chic style can bring us from day to night.

Tons of celebrities chose Isabel Marant’s ankle boots. Among them, I especially appreciate the ways Miranda Kerr styles hers. Below are ways she wore them with denim pieces from jacket to mini skirt:

There are lots of great styles from stars and fashion followers. Let start from the basics–learning how to wear the ankle boots with different types of jeans, shorts and skirts. Then we will move to the “master class”-learn how to wear them with color or pattern pieces.

First: pair ankle boots with dark skinny jeans or leggings. This is the easiest way to try. For the top, you can choose from leather jacket to sweater to basic t-shirt. The combo will keep you in style year round.

Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Kate Bosworth and Rachel Weisz paired their ankle boots with dark skinny jeans.

Now we can try other types of jeans in our wardrobe:

For the left look, I think the key is keeping all the accessories in the same color family to tie the top, blue jeans and the boots together.

For the middle look- with boyfriend jeans, we can pair a fitted top. If you want to try a loose one, I recommend rolling up sleeves and the pants.

For the scratched jeans, I think it’s better to choose a fitted version. Otherwise, the scratched design plus loose fit will make the look hard to pull off.

Light colored ankle boots with colored jeans can instantly make us spring- ready. But colors, especially pastels can sometime make us look “bigger”, it’s better to choose the right fit jeans and also choose ankle boots with  heels:

Below are two designer choices: one (the right) is of course from ISABEL MARANT, with 2.5 inches heels, it can give us the height we need and still be very comfy to walk in. Another is from Maison Martin Margiela(left).

It’s time to move in the summer: pair ankle boots with different colors of shorts! Love the consistency of the military shorts and the cool boots; the casual vibe of pattern shirt, water washed shorts and the relax boots; the contrasts between the girly pink short and the cowboy boots.

I’m also surprised about how these models wear ISABEL MARANT  suede booties–with tweed jacket, fitted blazer and strip tee, so fresh and sophisticated!

If you think these boots belong to jeans and shorts, then think again! See how these ladies pair them with different types of dresses: from silk shirt dress to cool knit ones.

Master class now comes: learn how to rock them with trendy pieces like floral or print ones! The suede boots and the floral pattern both have some Bohemian feeling which can tie them together. I think the only tip is to be wary about the length: go short or maxi, but not somewhere between.

Below are some affordable versions, notice the differences of the hues? In my humble opinion, I think choosing them should just like how you choose your nude heels: Nude is not a certain color, it should be different according to our skin tones. Choose one that close to our own skin tones will better.

First one is from Coconuts, now is on sale for $49.99. The heels are only 1 3/4″ which is 1”lower than the other two. But this tan is the one that matches my skin best. One bad part is I didn’t get them on sale, but I’m still very happy with it overall.

I'm Helen. In the huge fashion world, what attracts me the most is the way different people accessorize themselves. Our daily outfit choices are not just about the pieces we pick, they relate to something lurking deeply within our hearts: how we feel about ourselves, how we express ourselves to the rest of the world, what kind of people do we want to be and what kind of life do we want to live. Following my passion for fashion, I immerse myself in this bizarre world and try my best to share what I learned with you!
