The accessory that I invest in every season is a pair of of-the-moment sunglasses. Don’t like trendy clothes that have age limits, sunglasses are definitely ageless. The fastest way to update a look is throwing on the latest shades. They will instantly get you one step ahead of the crowd, even with a basic plain outfit (check my previous entry about trendy sunglasses here).
I’m not a matchy-matchy girl, especially when picking sunglasses. I prefer an unexpected and fun touch. To share with you what I learned about picking the right pair of sunglasses for our outfits, I digged nine stylish looks (above) for you.
From those ladies, we can learn many tips: for a basic neutral outfit, we can pick a pair of bright colored sunnies, like the one on Eva Mendes; for an eye-catching outfit, we can either pick a soft hue to make the garment pop (like Hanneli Mustaparta did above) or pick a pair in a complementary color to make an impact; for an edgy outfit, we can choose the sunglasses in an understated color but with an outstanding feature to echo the bold vibe of our clothes (like the one on Taylor Tomasi Hill above).
Below are my favorite fall pieces and the sunglasses that go perfectly with them. They are appropriate for many different occasions in our daily life. Hope you enjoy them as I do!
First is an elegant, sophisticated look: these bespeckled shades by Stella McCartney add fun to this sleek shift dress, and bring out the unique neck design. Wear it with a tailored blazer for the office or wear it alone for a date. The second (below middle) sailor dress and 60s inspired glasses combo is my favorite back-to-school outfit. The shape of the glasses completes the preppy vibe while the subtle leopard print adding an unexpected wild touch.
Do you remember the Markus Lupfer tee I featured here? Yes! This twilight blue sweater has the same print that I adore so much. Pair the sweater with these attractive bright mirrored sunglasses, and a pair of sequined skirt or leather shorts, you are ready for a hip-exhibition.

Before I found this pair of champagne color sunnies and this super affordable yet stylish dark green sweater by Asos (which is reminiscent of the sweater on Olivia Palermo here), I never thought those two colors together could be so chic. The light brown hue brings out the sophistication of this deep green color. The subtle cat eye shape and the pocket on the sweater add details to the whole look. Grab a boyfriend blazer, you get a casual chic office look.
Grey and pink is one of my all-time favorite color combinations. The hot feminine pink brightens up the understated and elegant grey. This pink sunnies have a beautiful name: ”florence broadhurst”. Wear it with sleek leather trimmed wool-jersey dress, you are ready to hang out with friends or do some shopping.
The sweater (below right) by Rebecca Taylor is my fall must-have. Love love the leopard layer which really makes the basic pullover pop. Deep-grey with a pop of leopard? Surely a wardrobe staple! For a sweater like that, a pair of blue/grey gradient sunglasses is perfect–it tunes down the edginess, also adds a splash of color without competing.

As a sunglasses addict, I also want to share four more pairs that I love. First one is my favorite this season: the one with python print! I wish they also have leopard version. They are so luxurious and glamorous!
Besides the cat eye shape, we can’t miss another hot one: retro round shape! This pair by Stella McCartney combines sweet pastel hue and the vintage vibe. Can’t wait to pair it with a brocade dress for a contrast look.
Besides the two trendy versions, oversized and aviator sunglasses are classic and timeless. They can company us season after season. Pick trusty brands to ensure quality. My favorites are from Tom Ford and Prada.
