If you want to make a statement, go with saturated colors no matter the trend. Luckily, they are right on trend this season! Don’t be scared of the hues, all you need is some tips and the confidence to wear them. Once you start, you will be surprised how fun and easy they are to play with!

A bright-colored suit is a great start to experiment with this head-to-toe color trend. The classic and modern silhouette of the suit balance the loudness of its color, besides you can mix and match each separate with all the neutrals in your wardrobe.

After you picked the suit, choose pieces that are either neutral or in the same color family to complete the look, like the jacket on Olivia Palermo (60% off now!) and the blue cutout bustier on Candice Lake above.

For accessories, you can either choose neutral ones but with interesting details, like this gorgeous white cut-out sandals; or play colorblocking by teaming cobalt blue heels with a coral suit; or mix textures and prints by pairing a leopard belt with a jacquard top as Olivia Palermo did.

Last but not least, fabric is the key when wearing bright pieces. Since colored pieces naturally draws attention, you don’t want them to stick to your body, with that said, select fabrics that drape instead of cling, like breezy silk, lightweight wool, high-density cotton or structured jacquard.

Refined Airport Style: Flounce Skirt & Printed Jacket

T-shirt, jeans and sneakers/boots are what usually come up in our mind when planning trips. Can we stay polished and glamorous on the way to our destination? Today’s featured fashion connoisseurs can tell us how in two simple steps:

First, add one statement piece to elevate the otherwise laid-back, plain look. Take their outfits for example: the black tee and ballet flats on Olivia Palermo, gray shirt and blue jeans on Rosie Huntington are basic pieces we all have and would wear to the airport. Instead of pairing the black tee with jeans or sweatpants, try a right-on-trend flounce skirt, it’s easy yet fashionable, also convenient to transform after you land. Similarly, instead of bringing a hoodie or sweater for a T-shirt-and-jeans combo, try a statement blazer or even just a well-fitted leather jacket, which will instantly polish up your look.

Second, using accessories strategically. Compared to delicate fine jewelry, a unique statement fashion necklace, like this arrow version, will finish off your look with style. You don’t need to worry about damage and the style will go great with all the outfits you bring. Also, think of accessories that are multifunction: A well-made designer satchel can polish up any outfit while fits all your essentials; An oversized sunglasses can ensure you look good without makeup while offer UV protection; A stylish hat can cover your bad hair while keeping your ensemble chic; A fashionable watch can make sure you leave on time while being a statement accessory itself…

Besides the different kinds of lust-worthy red pumps that we shared in my last entry, handbag is another great way to incorporate this bright, dynamic hue. Today, let’s start with those we use most in daily life–big totes.

Nicole Richie is known for her edgy Bohemian style. Today’s look is no exception: the tie dye dress perfectly showed her casual chic sensibility with an infusion of Bohemia, while the eye-catching Givenchy tote, Balenciaga ankle boots, beanie and sunglasses keeping the look modern and edgy.

This outfit is great for weekend getaways, hanging out with friends or running errands, also a stylish option for pregnant women like myself: I’m living in my loose shift dresses and flat ankle booties now!

When the color scheme becomes as simple as you can see on the right look above, it’s the detail that really matters: from the subtle brown trim on her sweater to the asymmetrical hemline of her skirt to the cap-toe oxford. The colorblock red tote really brightened up the whole look while echoing the simplicity. Change the mini skirt into shorts, skinny jeans or cropped pants, this look is great for women at any age!

How to use a pop of red to create more ladylike, party-ready outfits? Coming soon!
